After a hop, skip and a jump; we arrive at the second part of this Treasure Trove. Daniel and Tim wrap up what’s left of the magic items beginning with D.
As a quick reminder; if you have any homebrew magic items or magic item ideas, send them on to us. We’d love to do a homebrew Treasure Trove!
When it comes to magic items, I love high risk, high reward. In that vein, I do have a homebrew magic item to share. It’s a bit involved, but any good legendary item should be.
Fokke’s Sake
Wondrous Item, Legendary (requires attunement)
This dark tricorner hat has 7 charges. As an Action, expend 5 charges to manifest De Vligende Marid and her crew. This spectral man-o-war is the embodiment of Istishia’s disfavor. The ship has an AC; 13, 300hp, and a flying speed of 40ft. The hat regains 1 charge each day at dusk.
As a bonus action, the wearer of this hat may make a Charisma (Performance) check to maneuver the ship. The DM determines the DC of the maneuver.
When the bearer of the hat has been attuned for a full cycle of the moon without interruption, they gain the following benefit:
Broadside. As an Action on their turn, the Captain of De Vligende Marid may expend two charges to fire a broadside of cannons from one side of the ship. Each target within a 60ft by 600ft column originating from the side of the ship must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. Huge and larger creatures make this saving throw with disadvantage. Each target takes 8d10 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Curse. This hat is cursed, a fact that is revealed only when an Identify spell is cast on the hat or you attune to it. Attuning to the hat curses you until you are targeted by the Remove Curse spell or similar magic: removing the hat fails to end the curse. If you die while cursed thusly, your soul is immediately bound to serve on De Vliegende Marid unless released by a Wish or similar magic.
